What are Hernia Complications? How to deal with them?
A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue of your intestine pushes itself out through a layer of muscles within your abdomen. Hernia problems are very common and in research, it is seen around 1 in 10 people suffer from hernia at some point n life.
The most common hernia includes the intestinal wall and a bulge can be felt under your skin where your intestine or other tissue pushes out the weakened muscle. In some cases, even a minor hernia can cause discomfort or pain, especially when stretching your body during physical exercise or lifting a heavy object, or in some cases, while having a difficult bowel movement.
Most hernias are
reducible but they are some irreducible hernias too also called incarcerated
hernias. They cannot be pushed back to their original location. This can lead
to the following complications:
- Strangulation
- Obstruction
In Obstruction, when the gut part herniates, the contents present in the bowel may no longer be able to pass through the area which leads to cramps, absence of excretion, painful lump in your groin area, and vomiting. An obstructed hernia, if left untreated, can develop into a strangulated hernia.
